Michael Beale has told Tuesday’s press conference – as per the Record – he is “devastated” to see Rangers star Steven Davis ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Motherwell at Ibrox.
The 37-year-old came off the bench for Rangers in the comeback win over Hibernian, Beale’s first in charge. But he has since been missing against Aberdeen and then Ross County, last Friday. He is now out out for the rest of the season.
A blow for Rangers, who are hardly strong in terms of depth in midfield. Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Glen Kamara are the other options – with James Sands preferred in defence. The Gers have plenty of other injuries currently, too.
Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe, Antonio Colak, Filip Helander, John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz, Antonio Colak and others have been injured. Players are playing without match fitness, and others are playing through the pain to help Beale.
The manager himself says Lundstram took an injection just to be on the bench against Aberdeen. Now, Davis is out for the season and it throws his entire future at Rangers under the microscope. His contract is set to expire in June.

“It’s a huge blow. I’ve been devastated ever since it happened. I believe in early January he will go and have an operation then we will sit and talk. The Christmas period is a good time for reflection anyway.
“We as a club have a plan for Steven anyway, moving forward he’s someone we want to have in and around the club both as a player and a second career if he chose to go down that route,” Beale said, as per The Record.
Beale devastated as Rangers star Davis out for rest of the season
While it is not an immediate blow to the starting XI with Davis more of an impact player from the bench – his experience will be missed. In and around the dressing room, the Northern Irishman is crucial for Beale’s Rangers.
To have played 840 times in all competitions, as a midfielder, is incredible. Whether Rangers offer the 128-time Northern Ireland international a new deal, remains to be seen. It might be a similar role to that of Jermain Defoe.
But, what it does do, is convinces Beale to delve into the January market. The club have been linked with a number of players, including impressive young midfielder Nicolas Raskin. It might see Rangers intensify their interest.
