Paul Merson has suggested on Sky Sports News (12:13pm, February 4, 2023) that Jorginho could leave Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the end of the season despite joining from Graham Potter’s Chelsea on the final day of the January transfer window.
The Sky Sports pundit has said that he would not be surprised if Jorginho parted company with Arsenal at the end of the season if the Gunners win the Premier League title this campaign.
The former Arsenal star made the comments about the Italy international midfielder while praising the Gunners for bringing Jorginho to the Emirates Stadium last month.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal paid London and Premier League rivals Chelsea £12 million to secure the services of the 31-year-old on January transfer deadline day.
Paul Merson on Jorginho at Arsenal
Merson said about Jorginho: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not at Arsenal next season, I wouldn’t. But for £12 million, you have to take him for the next six months to get you over the line. I think it is a phenomenal signing, I really do. I really do.”

Could a summer exit happen?
You know what? We should not be surprised if Jorginho does leave Arsenal at the end of the season if he helps the North London club win the Premier League title.
Let’s face it.
That is why Edu and Mikel Arteta have brought the Italian to the Emirates Stadium.
To enhance their chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal need(ed) cover in the midfield department, and in Jorginho they have got an experienced player who has won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and the European Championship with Italy.
