Paul Merson has stated that Everton ‘surely’ can’t sell both Arsenal and Newcastle transfer targets, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison this summer.
The Sky pundit claimed that they can ‘afford’ for one of them to leave, but not both of them.
Everton survived relegation in their final home game of the season and they aren’t exactly in a great state, from a financial perspective, with Burnley and Leeds threatening legal action because they think the Toffees haven’t complied with financial fair play, as reported by the Telegraph.
Either way, rumours have emerged that Arsenal have ‘held talks’ with Richarlison, whilst the London club are also interested in his teammate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, alongside Newcastle.
Nonetheless, when Merson was told about Everton possibly having to offload a key player this summer, he made it clear on Sky Sports News that it can’t be, both Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.
Jeff Stelling told Merson: “The problem is, in their current financial situation, the chances are, they will have to sell Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin.”
Merson responded: “They can afford one of them to go. They can’t afford both, surely? Surely not?
“Then, maybe they would have to bring in somebody who has scored a lorry load of goals in the Championship. And we know how different that is from the Premier League.
“But it will be hard. The fans will stick with them and I am sure they won’t be in a relegation battle next season.”

BIG SUMMER AWAITS EVERTON, NEWCASTLE AND ARSENAL
All three clubs will hit the transfer market with different moods and heavier pockets than others.
Newcastle are flying high, out of the Mike Ashley era and heading into their first summer market with their Saudi-backed ownership.
On the other hand, Arsenal will still be hurting from missing out on the Champions League and they might find the top stars don’t sign for them, as a result.
But, there is probably more uncertainty at Goodison Park, because of their financial situation, so it might be a case of selling first and then re-building.
