Paul Merson is a big fan of reported Leeds United target and West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to his comments on Sky Sports News earlier this year.
The Express & Star has reported that Leeds are interested in signing Johnstone from West Brom in the summer of 2021.
The Baggies are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, and it is hard to see the 28-year-old former Manchester United prospect staying at the Baggies next season and beyond if that happens.
Former Arsenal and Aston Villa star Merson now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, and he said earlier this year that Johnstone will have no problem in finding a top club.
Merson said about Johnstone on Sky Sports News (2:56pm, February 20, 2021): “He is a good goalkeeper, another one who is doing himself massive favours. If West Brom get relegated, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a top club. He has done everything right.”

Good signing for Leeds United?
Leeds have a good and experienced goalkeeper in Kiko Casilla, but the former Real Madrid man is a substitute these days.
Illan Meslier is the first-choice goalkeeper at the West Yorkshire club at the moment, but the Frenchman is only 21 years of age.
While there is no reason to drop Meslier from the team, he could do with more competition.
Johnstone is a very experienced goalkeeper who is at the top of the game, and at the right price, the 28-year-old would be a brilliant signing for Leeds.
