One of the most important parts of the World Cup is the mascots, and Clutch, Maple and Zayu will be the three you will be seeing for the next month.
The 2026 World Cup is underway as the opening ceremony took place before Mexico vs South Africa.
There we were treated to Shakira performing on the big stage, as well as getting a glimpse of the mascots in question. But who are they? Let’s meet the trio.
Who do you think will win the 2026 World Cup, and why?
Clutch the Bald Eagle – USA
Starting off with the USA, Clutch the Bald Eagle will be the representative for the host nation with the most games this summer.
The Bald Eagle is the national symbol of the US and, according to the FIFA website, “Clutch leads by action by rallying teammates, lifting spirits and turning every challenge into an opportunity to rise higher.”
He has also been classed as a midfielder on the site and probably the most symbolic of the three chosen for the World Cup.

Maple the Moose – Canada
Sticking with the traditional theme for each country, Maple is the name of the moose who has been chosen to represent Canada.
Maple has been selected as the goalkeeper in the squad and has been described as being “creative, resilient and unapologetic”.
Arguably more favourable than the bald eagle.

Zayu the Jaguar – Mexico
While the bald eagle and moose are obvious choices for the USA and Canada, a jaguar is a surprise shout.
Zayu’s name comes from “unity, strength and joy” and he will occupy the role of striker in the team.

A symbol of “cultural celebration and connection”, Zayu allegedly embraces Mexican culture through “dance, food and tradition”.
Out of all of the mascots, this one looks the best and the most exciting.
