Newcastle United are interested in signing former Southampton central defender Maya Yoshida from Sampdoria in the January transfer window, according to TMW.
The Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are about to make an enquiry for 33-year-old Japan international central defender.
Would Maya Yoshida make Newcastle better?
Newcastle are in dire need of defensive reinforcements.
We saw that against Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend.
One of the goals that Newcastle conceded was just so bad.
So, we can understand why Newcastle are being linked with former Southampton centre-back.
After all, Yoshida is huge experienced when it comes to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old played 154 times in the Premier League.

Yoshida scored six goals in those games.
However, we have to question whether a 33-year-old centre-back is what Newcastle need at this moment in time.
Now, of course, Yoshida will clearly be a short-term fix for Eddie Howe’s side.
The defender would be signed to help Newcastle get better defensively for the second half of the season.
But can’t Newcastle find a younger defender who could also be a signing for the medium to long term?
