Jamie Carragher has criticised Newcastle United central defender Ciaran Clark on Sky Sports Premier League (2:53pm, December 19, 2021) for his role in the first goal that Manchester City scored at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle have suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
A win for Pep Guardiola’s side was pretty much a given.
However, Newcastle will be disappointed by the manner in which they conceded the first goal.
In fact, Eddie Howe’s side gave away that goal.
Following a corner, Joao Cancelo hooked the ball back into the six yard box.
All Newcastle centre-back Clark had to do was clear away the ball.
Instead the defender decided to duck, probably thinking that Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will collect it.

Dubravka clearly did not expect Clark’s action, and Ruben Dias made no mistake in heading the ball home.
Ciaran Clark criticism
Former Liverpool defender Carragher was following the match for Sky Sports, and he has strongly criticised Clark.
Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (2:53pm, December 19, 2021): “He has just got to head it. It is absolutely shocking that, so early into the game.”
Relegation trouble
The defeat to City means that Newcastle remain in deep trouble of getting relegated.
Eddie Howe’s side are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 10 points from 18 matches.
