Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino warned a journalist that he needed to ‘be careful’ when he asked him about Harry Kane’s comments on Wednesday, as reported by Football London.

Kane had made some forthright comments after Tottenham drew 2-2 with Olympiacos two evenings’ ago.

The Spurs striker said that he understood why Pochettino was angry and that his teammates needed to grow up.

Spurs fans had praised the comments, as covered by HITC, with many suggesting that Kane should be promoted to captain on the back of such words.

But Pochettino was less willing to praise his striker, as he felt that his comments may have been misconstrued.

He said: “Be careful when you translate what the players say after the game to media because some time we can take in a different way the words. Always I respect what player say and you can assess what the player say.

“I am not going to judge what one or another player is telling you because I wasn’t there, so I cannot talk about the words and the intention.”

Tottenham fans have been calling for Kane to takeover from Hugo Lloris for a number of years now, but Pochettino has always stuck by the French goalkeeper so far.

Kane has become a very vocal presence in the Tottenham dressing room though, and it is easy to see why he was so critical of their display in the Champions League.

Spurs were miles short of their best in Greece, as they threw away a two goal lead to let the points slip away.

Tottenham are next in action against Leicester City, when a much improved performance will be needed.
