Tottenham Hotspur’s signing of Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer was controversial, as the right-back is an Arsenal fan.
Or at least was.
As you can see below, Doherty actually deleted his previous tweets on Arsenal following the announcement that he has joined Tottenham from Premier League rivals Wolves.
Jose Mourinho, a former Chelsea manager, was in charge of Spurs at the time.
Nuno was the manager of Wolves at the time, and you would have thought that the Portuguese would relish working with the 29-year-old at Tottenham now.
However, The Athletic are reporting this morning that Nuno could actually sell the 29-year-old this summer.
It is being claimed that it was Nuno who sanctioned Doherty’s sale from Wolves last summer.
The Portuguese could offload the Republic of Ireland international from Spurs this summer ‘if the right offer came in’.
Tottenham Hotspur stay or sell?
Doherty did not have the best of times at Spurs last season, but, at the age of 29, the Republic of Ireland international is at the top of his game – theoretically anyway.
The 29-year-old can also play as a right wing-back and knows how Nuno works.
Spurs head coach Nuno recently raved about Doherty, and the North London club should not sell him this summer and should give him another season at least.
Doherty made 13 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs last season.
The right-back gave two assists in those matches.
The Republic of Ireland international also gave two assists in seven Europa League games for Tottenham in 2020-21.
