Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno has raved about Matt Doherty, as quoted in Football.London.
Nuno, who was appointed as the Tottenham head coach earlier this summer, worked with Doherty at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Portuguese boss has said that the Republic of Ireland international right-back is working hard in training.
The Spurs head coach has high hopes for the 29-year-old, who can also operate as a right wing-back and cost Spurs £15 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Wolves last summer, as reported in The London Evening Standard.
Nuno said, when asked what Doherty needs to do, as quoted in Football.London: “What he’s doing every day. Commit himself, work hard, the quality is there. I know him, he knows us. Take the best of him and this is what we will try.”

Getting back to his best
Doherty was not exactly bad for Spurs last season, but the Republic of Ireland international could have done better.
The 29-year-old made 13 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.
The right-back gave two assists in those matches.

The Republic of Ireland international also gave two assists in seven Europa League games for Tottenham in 2020-21.
Nuno worked with Doherty and knows the strengths and weaknesses of the 29-year-old.
One disappointing season on a personal level does not change the fact that Doherty is a very capable right-back/right wing-back who, at 29, is at his peak.
