Arsenal have had a productive transfer window this summer amid their 100% start to the new Premier League season.
Mikel Arteta has an XI that is very difficult to break into, so they are in a situation where they now have to be extra careful in who they bring in.
Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa at the weekend is a prime example of that, with the team yet to concede after two matches.
The London club had the best defence in the Premier League last season, conceding only 29 goals, but Arsenal still brought in Riccardo Calafiori.
There has been a lot of talk around the attack and Arteta needing a number nine amid question marks over Kai Havertz.
Arsenal have been told they need to sign Ivan Toney, but with Friday’s deadline edging ever closer, it seems unlikely a deal will happen.
But another deal that has been signed, sealed and delivered to the delight of the supporters is midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
The Euro 2024 winner took to Instagram to react to his move, with several players posting their thoughts in the comments section.
Kieran Tierney, Mat Ryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were just some of those to respond to Merino posting ‘always a Gooner’, added with an image of him in one of Arsenal’s home shirts of yesteryear.
Mikel Merino joins Arsenal
Tierney, who was at Real Sociedad last season, posted heart emojis, whilst Aubameyang told him ‘congratulations, brother. Good luck’.
And former keeper Ryan added: ‘All the best, brother.’
Arsenal’s midfield depth
Fabio Vieira has agreed to join Poro on loan amid his struggles for form and to earn game time under Arteta at the Emirates.
But with Merino coming in, this is certainly a step up in quality and it takes the team’s midfield quality to another level.

Martin Odegaard will remain the creative king in the ten role and Declan Rice will also stay in that box-to-box role.
But you sense Arsenal’s new boy will fight Thomas Partey and Jorginho for starting spots, with Arsenal needing that depth given how they struggled in the Champions League last season.
