Derrick Lewis was knocked out by Josh Hokit at UFC 250

Derrick Lewis couldn’t come through for fans, as he was stopped by Josh Hokit in the second round at the White House.

Hokit, a former NFL player with a reputation for odd behaviour on the mic, has quickly become one of the sport’s most talked-about figures. His unusual interviews, which have included everything from multiple personas to rapping, have kept him in headlines since he signed with the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series last year.

Coming off his thrilling fight with Curtis Blaydes at UFC 327, where he earned two bonuses, Hokit accepted the fight with Lewis while still in an ambulance.

The matchup took place on the historic UFC Freedom 250 card. Lewis was added to that event after it had already been announced, following a request from President Trump himself.

UFC Freedom 250: Josh Hokit vs Derrick Lewis

Josh Hokit came into the fight 34 pounds lighter than Derrick Lewis, but that didn’t stop him from trying to set the pace early. The difference in size was clear from the start, as Hokit used body kicks to keep Lewis at a distance.

Lewis seemed patient, waiting for a chance to land one of his signature heavy shots, but Hokit used that time well, controlling the tempo. Around two minutes in, he leaned on his wrestling background and took Lewis down, landing some solid ground and pound in the process.

The former football player put on an impressive display of ground control and even opened up a cut on Lewis while holding top position. At one point, he had an armbar locked in near the end of the round, though Lewis managed to hold on until the bell.

Backed by a loud crowd, Lewis came out stronger in the second round. He landed a few counters and managed to stuff an early takedown attempt. However, it didn’t last long before Hokit found his rhythm again.

After taking control again later in the round, with several clean combinations that pushed his opponent back against the cage. He finished things off with another flurry of punches that sent Lewis to the mat again before celebrating over him.
