Reported Arsenal summer transfer target Marcus Rashford did not start for Manchester United against Leicester City at Old Trafford, and that absolutely shocked Gary Neville, who gave his take on the situation on Sky Sports Premier League (5:18pm, April 2, 2022).
The former Manchester United defender could not believe that interim-manager Ralf Rangnick did not include Rashford in the starting lineup despite the Arsenal-linked player being the only recognised striker at his disposal on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo missed the game due to illness, while Edinson Cavani is injured.
United played out a 1-1 draw with Leicester at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter last month that Rashford is considering his future at Manchester United.
90min have reported that Arsenal are among the clubs who are keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old England international forward.
Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (5:18pm, April 2, 2022):”Well it is the same players that played against Manchester City, where we saw [Paul] Pogba and Fernandes up front in that 4-2-2-2. It is a staggering situation, two things really.
“One, that Manchester United started off the season with Cavani, [Mason] Greenwood, Rashford, [Anthony] Martial and Ronaldo and they end up with no centre-forward against Manchester City and today against Leicester. And the fact that one of those centre-forwards is on the bench, Marcus Rashford.
“We talked about Harry Maguire before in terms of coming off a bit of a tough period. But Marcus Rashford is having a massive low. To not be in that Manchester United team today, Marcus Rashford, is saying something I have to say. To play without a centre-forward, at home against Leicester, when he’s had a couple of weeks break as well, it’s a big decision from Ralf Rangnick.”
Neville added during his co-commentary duty, as transcribed by The Express: “It’s quite incredible. You’d have thought given he was training every single day that United would’ve been in over the past two weeks.
“You’d have thought he’d have got into the team but it’s surprising to see him sat in between Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones on the bench.”

Arsenal a good option for Manchester United’s Rashford
In our opinion, Rashford should seriously consider a move to Arsenal from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
Yes, United will have a new manager in charge for next season and beyond, and that will certainly affect Rashford’s decision.
However, the England international forward still needs to consider his options.
Arsenal will be in the market for a new striker in the summer transfer window – maybe even two or three.
The Gunners did not replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his move to Barcelona in the January transfer window, while Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are out of contract at the end of the season.
