Stuart Pearce has said on talkSPORT that it was a “massive disappointment” that Jesse Lingard did not move to David Moyes’s West Ham United from Manchester United in the summer of 2021.

The former West Ham coach has raved about Lingard, who is a free agent at the moment following his departure from Manchester United this summer.

The 29-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has been linked with a move to West Ham in the summer transfer window.

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook said on talkSPORT (9:40am, July 2, 2022) that Lingard prefers a move to West Ham to joining other clubs.

Crook added that the England international wants to be paid £150,000 per week as salary.

West Ham’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are interested in the attacker as well.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at West Ham from Manchester United and help the Hammers qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

During his loan spell at the Hammers, Lingard scored nine goals and gave four assists in 16 Premier League matches.

Pearce said about Lingard on talkSPORT: “I’m not sure whether it’s totally done or not. We might have had the best six months out of Jesse Lingard that he’s ever going to have in football, again or beforehand.

“He was magnificent for us, he gave us a slightly different dimension, his football was outstanding. He’s got a footballing arrogance, Jesse.

“He’ll take the ball anywhere on the pitch and it was a massive disappointment that Jesse didn’t come and join us permanently in the summer on the back of that.”
