Mauricio Pochettino out of the door. Thiago Silva has also left. Over £1bn has been spent on players. And an inexperienced Chelsea squad.

It’s never a dull day at Stamford Bridge and they topped that on Tuesday.

Chelsea announced the exit of Pochettino after only one season in charge and now they are looking for their third permanent manager in as many seasons.

Many felt that, towards the end of the Premier League campaign, the players, performances and results were improving.

The London club won their last five matches and ended up securing sixth spot in the Premier League table. If Manchester City beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday, then Chelsea will be in the Europa League next season.

A lot of Chelsea players have been signed for hefty transfer fees and they have taken a lot of verbal pelters from fans this term.

One of them is Mykhailo Mudryk after he joined the club for a hefty transfer fee in 2023. Arsenal were one of the clubs looking to sign him, but they are probably glad they didn’t now.

The 23-year-old has struggled for large parts of his career at Chelsea, even if someone like Ian Wright thinks he is improving.

But Martin Keown took it one step further and suggested that they purchased the £97k-a-week star from ‘Wyscout’ and ‘nobody watched him’, as he told talkSPORT.

Wyscout is dubbed ‘the world’s biggest library of football’ and clubs from across the world use it to scout players, analyse teams, individuals, from the English Premier League to Serbia’s top tier.

Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer to Chelsea

“It’s a massive fall from grace, no?!” Responded Keown to Chelsea finishing sixth. “Chelsea fans can’t be happy with this position. They won the Champions League and within two years they have just plummeted, Chelsea.

“There are so many youngsters there. If you look at Mudryk, it’s almost like they bought him on Wyscout. Nobody had watched him play. I still don’t think he’s actually the finished article. But Cole Palmer has virtually dragged that club through.

On Arsenal not signing Mudryk: “Well, maybe we missed a bullet there because we haven’t got the money to waste at Arsenal football club that Chelsea have appeared to have.”

Chelsea go backwards again after Mauricio Pochettino’s exit

When the season had concluded, many neutrals looked at Chelsea and thought they are going to be a serious threat next season.

Cole Palmer is one of the best players in the league, you were seeing improvement in other criticised stars and injured players would return.

But now with this Pochettino exit, it seems as though the club have decided to take steps backwards and damaged themselves.

You could tell from the players’ reactions – Nicolas Jackson made his feelings pretty clear – This has probably cut up the dressing room like never before.
