Martin Keown has hammered Dan James on Match of the Day after the Leeds star was shown a straight red card against Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Wales man was guilty of a horrible challenge on Mateo Kovacic.
Leeds came into the game after losing 2-1 to Arsenal on Sunday in which Luke Ayling was sent off for a horrendous challenge on Gabriel Martinelli. It gave Leeds no chance of getting a result and it was the same on last night.
With Leeds already 1-0 down to Mason Mount’s opener, James made it impossible to get anything from the match. His tackle, described as “terrible” by ex-Leeds man Paul Robinson, ended any chance of a result.
Leeds remain in 18th, level on points with Burnley – but Burnley have played a game less. Everton have played two less, and are two ahead. It looks bad for Leeds and Keown has hammered winger James for his red.
“Unbelievable. You want your players at boiling point, but you don’t want them to boil over. He didn’t do it at Manchester United, I don’t know if that comes with playing for Leeds. It’s costing them,” Keown told MOTD.
Keown hammers Leeds star James – where do Whites go now?
Leeds have now lost a crucial part of their defence in Luke Ayling, as well as one of their most-prominent attackers in Dan James. So, how will they line-up against Brighton? Well, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Raphinha will start.
The trio are likely to form the front three. Jesse Marsch has preferred a 4-2-3-1 and that might see Mateusz Klich re-installed as a 10, in front of perhaps Kalvin Phillips and Robin Koch. Jamie Shackleton might play at right-back.
