Are Leeds United getting relegated? Well, it absolutely isn’t looking good for the Elland Road outfit.
Tonight in West Yorkshire, Jesse Marsch’s troops slumped to a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Mason Mount fired the Londoners ahead after only four minutes but Leeds gave themselves a near-impossible task midway through the first half.
Daniel James received a straight red card for a horrendous lunge on Mateo Kovacic, who later went off injured.
With Leeds in a very serious relegation battle, tonight was one for cool heads and the Wales international undeniably let down his teammates and the United supporters in attendance.
Here’s how former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson reacted to the ‘terrible’ tackle, as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners in the end.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Dan James had no reason to make such a strong challenge in that area of the pitch. It’s a terrible looking challenge. There’s no need to make that tackle. You have to keep your emotions in check. It’s indefensible.”
Are Leeds United getting relegated?
Well it isn’t official, but it’s looking like a massive challenge for Leeds – who had Luke Ayling red carded against Arsenal last weekend – to stay in the Premier League, yes.
They’re 18th in the standings, behind 17th-placed Burnley – who have a game in hand – on goal difference.
If the Clarets win that game in hand – away to Aston Villa next week – then it could be curtains for the West Yorkshire club, after only two seasons back in the big time following a 16-year absence prior to that.
Leeds are home to in-form Brighton this weekend and then away to Brentford on the final day of the campaign.
