Marco Silva comments on James McCarthy’s Everton future

Celtic, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are among the clubs reportedly interested in Everton central midfielder James McCarthy.

Everton manager Marco Silva has told The Liverpool Echo that he does not want reported Celtic, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion target James McCarthy to leave in the January transfer window.

McCarthy is fully fit now and has recovered from a long-term injury that he suffered way back in January 2018.

The 28-year-old central midfielder has been linked with a number of clubs in the January transfer window.

Celtic and West Ham United are interested in the Republic of Ireland international, according to The Mirror (print edition, page 66, Sunday, January 13, 2019) (click here to read more).

According to The Daily Mail, Villa and West Brom in the Championship are interested in signing McCarthy on loan from Everton this month.

Silva told The Liverpool Echo about McCarthy’s future: “If you ask me what I want, I want James to be part of our squad. To answer directly to you.

“Even if it looks strange because he is not playing often or he is not making the squad list often, but if you ask me directly I will tell you it is something I want, for him to be part of the squad until the end of the season and then let’s see in the future because he has a contract (beyond that).

Good plan?

McCarthy staying at Everton is certainly going to help the Toffees, but it may not necessarily be good for the central midfielder.

The former Wigan Athletic star needs to play now, and a loan move to a club in the Championship or in the Premier League will enable him to regain his old form and get some valuable playing time.
