Newcastle United have joined the race for Liverpool target Marcelo Brozovic, according to Tuttosport.

What’s the story?

Tuttosport are reporting that Newcastle have shown interest in Inter Milan midfielder Brozovic.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have taken over Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

Newcastle have mega-rich owners now, and Brozovic is a player the Magpies are keen on signing.

The Premier League club have let it be known to the Croatia international that they appreciate him and want him.

Brozovic is out of contract at Inter in the summer of 2022, and talks with the Italian club over a new deal are not going well.

Worrying for Liverpool?

Newcastle’s reported interest in Brozovic will be a cause for concern for Liverpool.

Inter Live reported in August that Liverpool are planning to offer the 28-year-old a weekly salary of £115,000 and sign him on a free transfer next summer.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Yes, Newcastle will not play in the Champions League next season and are not going to challenge for the Premier League title.

But, Newcastle are a brand new project, one that could be very appealing to Brozovic.

Brozovic is a very highly-rated midfielder.

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho said about the Inter star on talkSPORT (June 13, 2021): “England is going to face one of the best midfields in the tournament. Brozovic is the top of the top. He’s a fantastic player.

“Aggression but at the same time great technique and arrival in the box and coming from a more defensive position.”
