Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has been quoted as saying on the club’s YouTube channel that Tyler Roberts can leave in January.

If he wants to.

Bielsa made the comments while responding to a question about Roberts potentially leaving Leeds on loan in he January transfer window.

The 22-year-old forward signed a new contract with Leeds only in June 2021.

What Bielsa said about Roberts

Bielsa said about Roberts, as transcribed by TheBootRoom: “While he has the fight to win a place in the team, then I still want him to be here. It is different when a player has the desire to leave.

“Then there is no point in keeping him. When you have more players for the same needs, it decreases the need for the players.”

Leeds exit in January?

Roberts is struggling for playing time at Leeds at the moment.

The Wales international has made one start and 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

The Leeds no. 11 made 14 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the league last season.

Now, we know that Roberts is not a regular in the first team.

Despite being able to play as a forward, attacking midfielder or out wide, Bielsa has used the 22-year-old mainly as a substitute.

Against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Joe Gelhardt started ahead of Roberts amid the absence of Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford.

In our opinion, Roberts should seriously consider a loan move away from Elland Road in the January transfer window.

The Wales international needs to play regularly at this stage of his career.
