Alisson Becker has rather ridiculously been compared to teammate Loris Karius, after Karim Benzema’s disallowed goal v Liverpool last night.
Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League in Paris on Saturday.
Vinicius Junior struck the winning goal for los Blancos, after Benzema had one controversially disallowed in the first half as John Terry – and many others – slammed the decision.
There was an element of farce about the Frenchman finding the net, with Alisson failing to gather a lay off by the Real hitman, before the ball ultimately found its way back to the striker via the Brazilian goalkeeper’s knee.
Here’s what Marca wrote about the former Roma stopper – a £66 million signing in 2018 – for their post-match ratings.
They said: “The Brazilian wasn’t his usual assured self, getting in a mix-up for Benzema’s disallowed goal, colliding with Konate. It was almost his own Karius moment.”
They are referencing Loris Karius’s shocker against Madrid during the Champions League final in 2018, when Jurgen Klopp’s troops lost 3-1 and the German keeper made two errors.
Problem is, both of those Karius mistakes were far worse and more damning than Alisson’s involvement in Benzema’s disallowed goal v Liverpool last night.
In Paris, there were a number of other players in a red shirt who you could argue were equally culpable in Benzema finding the net, had the goal been given.
In Kiev, the 28-year-old was explicably at fault for two of the three goals Liverpool conceded on that occasion and for Marca to say Alisson ‘almost’ committed a Karius-esque howler is not only ridiculous, but insulting to boot.
