Manchester United breathed some much-needed positive vibes into the club on Wednesday night.
It’s probably too little too late given how the season has panned out as a whole for Erik ten Hag and his players.
But Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Newcastle keeps up the team’s hopes of securing a European finish and provides the players with a boost ahead of the FA Cup final.
A number of the young Manchester United stars are thriving, with Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund all getting on the scoresheet.
The home team deserved the three points, even though Newcastle scored a late goal, with this match being the club’s final home game of the season.
Usually, players would do a lap of honour with their families, but it was just a case of the players and their manager walking around the pitch on their own to thank those inside Old Trafford for their support throughout the season.
Ten Hag decided to take the mic and thank the fans for their support, even though they haven’t performed this season.
Watching on, Les Ferdinand claimed that there were signs of a ‘rift’ between the manager and some of his players, as he told Premier League Productions (15/05/24 at 10:00 pm).
The former striker claimed that ten Hag ‘tried to shake hands’ with some players, but ‘they didn’t really want to acknowledge him’.
Erik ten Hag’s speech after Manchester United’s win over Newcastle
“It’s interesting he has gone around every player and shook their hands, or tried to shake their hands,” said Ferdinand.
“It was interesting to see the reaction from some of the players. They didn’t really want to acknowledge him. That always tells you there is a rift.
“I know if you aren’t in the team or you’re not playing, then you’re not happy. But there are some tell-tale signs there that not all is well in the camp at Manchester United.”

Manchester United FA Cup final
It’s a trip to Brighton for the final Premier League game of the season and three points are needed if the team wants Europe, or just simply bettering Newcastle’s result.
But more than anything, the team needs more confidence going into the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

More than likely, Pep Guardiola’s side will win the Premier League title on the final day.
They will head to Wembley with their tails up and belief, once more, that they can beat their neighbours again in the FA Cup final.
