Clinton Morrison says if he was Manchester United, then he would be paying ‘all the money in the world’ to try and sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Crystal Palace striker, who is a boyhood Spurs fan, made it clear that he wants Kane to stay and ‘I hope he does’, but the question has to be asked about his future.

This time next January, the 29-year-old, if he hasn’t extended his stay at Hotspur Way, will be free to speak to foreign clubs.

Whilst there is debate as to whether Antonio Conte will sign on the dotted line, the big one Spurs fans want is Kane to stay on board.

The key word around Tottenham is ‘trophy’. Will Conte win something at the club? Will Kane finally get his hands on some silverware? If the answer is yes, then he stays, without a doubt, but there is uncertainty.

Nonetheless, with Erik ten Hag showing some life and picking up Manchester United from the canvas, Morrison spoke about the 20-time champions of England possibly pushing for Kane, as he told Sky Sports News.

“Harry Kane wants to compete and he wants to win trophies,” said Morrison. “We know how good his goalscoring record is, but he wants to win trophies.

“It’s a tough one really. We have always said ‘will he leave or will he go?’ This season is crucial. If Tottenham get into the top four, then I think Kane sees out his career at Tottenham.

“Then you look at other Premier League clubs, the likes of Man United. Can they come in for him? Can they come and afford to buy Harry Kane?

“I love Tottenham. I am a big Tottenham fan. Everyone knows that. I wouldn’t want Harry Kane to go. If I am Man United now, with the way I am playing, then I am paying all the money in the world to try and get Harry Kane. That is a centre-forward they need to go and compete and be at that level again. But I want him to say at Tottenham, so I hope he does.”

KANE’S CONTRACT AT TOTTENHAM

A number of seasons ago, there was that well-documented interest from Manchester City and the £200k-a-week player (Spotrac) himself wanting to leave. Now Kane is watching Erling Haaland in envy from a distance.

If the England captain was so certain of Tottenham’s future, then a new deal would have been signed.

Daniel Levy has a trophy-laden coach in the dugout. They have backed the Italian during the past two transfer windows, even though he is demanding more.

It’s now a case of taking it to the next level and showing signs that the club are serious about adding trophies to their cabinet because you get the feeling that Kane would rather win one big trophy at Tottenham, rather than several elsewhere.
