Manchester United want Martin Dubravka and have opened initial talks with Newcastle United over a potential loan deal for the goalkeeper.
There could be something of a late-window trolley dash from United as they desperately seek to improve Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Richard Arnold is going to end up looking like a contestant on Supermarket Sweep if there is truth to some of the rumours around right now.
Antony, Sergino Dest and Cody Gakpo are just some of the names strongly linked with joining United, but another goalkeeper seems to be the priority.
Kevin Trapp and recent Newcastle target Yann Sommer have been heavily linked, but the Red Devils may now go straight in for a Magpies stopper.
Manchester United want Martin Dubravka
Sky Sports report that United have made their first move for Dubravka by opening talks with Newcastle.
Dubravka was left out of Newcastle’s squad to face Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
That may be a precursor to a move away and it’s claimed that Dubravka is open to joining United.
The Athletic add that United have now made a loan offer for Dubravka and hope to sign him as competition for David De Gea.
The Slovakian has been demoted to second-choice at Newcastle following Nick Pope’s summer move from Burnley to Newcastle.
This move won’t exactly see the 33-year-old leave Newcastle for first-team football, as Dubravka will again just be second-choice at United.
Dubravka is a proven Premier League goalkeeper though and can offer good competition for De Gea after a tricky start to the season.
This comes months after the Manchester Evening News claimed that Dubravka actually rejected a move to Manchester United on deadline day.
United were willing to swap Dubravka for Dean Henderson according to that report, but Dubravka wasn’t keen on the move to Old Trafford.
Fast forward a few months and Henderson has gone to Nottingham Forest and Dubravka is now stuck behind Pope, so a move now seems to be on the cards.
