Manchester United want Illan Meslier but Leeds United have no intention of selling and consider him to be untouchable.
David De Gea is one of the highest-profile goalkeepers in the world but he has become a real problem for the Red Devils.
De Gea just isn’t good enough in terms of playing out from the back and when he makes ridiculous errors too, he is at risk of being replaced.
Dean Henderson has been loaned out and United may now need to go into the market to find a ball-playing goalkeeper to suit Erik ten Hag’s style of play.
Manchester United want Illan Meslier
The Mirror report that Manchester United have picked out Leeds United stopper Illan Meslier as a potential long-term replacement for De Gea.
United ever showing interest in a Leeds player is always seen as a pretty bold pursuit considering the bitter rivalry between the two clubs.
The Red Devils were linked with Kalvin Phillips but that went nowhere as the midfielder instead joined Manchester City.
Fabrizio Romano now reports that whilst United may want Meslier, Leeds have absolutely ‘no intention’ of selling the Frenchman.
Meslier is seen as ‘untouchable’ at Elland Road and he will not be available if United come knocking in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Leeds have just signed a veteran goalkeeper in Joel Robles and still have a talented youngster in Kristoffer Klaesson.
Yet those two goalkeepers are merely backup to Meslier and there is little chance of him losing his spot as Leeds’ first-choice stopper.
Meslier, 22, is closing in on 100 appearances for Leeds now and has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur of late.
A French Under-21 international with aspirations of senior call-ups in the future, Meslier will look to keep developing at Elland Road and any move away from Leeds down the line surely won’t see him joining United.
