Manchester United have now caused Arsenal a huge problem – Our View

Manchester United seem to have created a bit of an issue for Arsenal in the transfer market as the Gunners pursue Mykhaylo Mudryk.

What’s the story?

Well, the north Londoners are determined to sign the Ukraine international – according to the Evening Standard, a bid of £55m has already been rejected, with Arsenal set to make an improved offer.

Shakhtar Donetsk seemingly have no intention of accepting anything close to that £55m sum, with the Guardian claiming that they want £85m to sell their talisman.

Now, that is where we think Manchester United have created a problem for Arsenal.

As talented as he is, Mudryk is not worth £85m.

However, Antony also wasn’t worth anything near £85m either following a 2021/22 campaign which saw him score just eight goals in the Eredivisie, but Manchester United still paid that amount to sign the Brazil international.

The fact Manchester United agreed to pay that amount for a bright talent, one still far away from genuinely becoming an £85m footballer, has created a snowball effect in the transfer market.

Now, Shakhtar Donetsk feel comfortable enough to demand such a huge fee, despite the fact Mudryk is just 21 and is yet to prove himself outside of Ukraine, albeit impressing in the Champions League this season.

It must be noted that Manchester United didn’t immediately agree to pay £85m for Antony, although they eventually buckled, meaning Shakhtar Donetsk will most likely wait in the hope of Arsenal doing similar.

Manchester United not the only ones to cause Arsenal problems

In our view, Manchester City agreeing to pay £100m for Jack Grealish also hasn’t done Arsenal any favours.

Shakhtar Donetsk can quite fairly point to that eye-watering sum, as well as the price for Antony, and feel justified in demanding £85m for Mudryk.

According to Sergei Palkin – Chief Executive Officer of the Ukrainian giants – negotiations are continuing with Arsenal, although we can’t see how the Gunners will be able to convince him to lower his asking price.
