Manchester City are hopeful Phil Foden will recover from his foot injury in time for the new Premier League season after having to sit out the Euro 2020 final, according to ESPN.
Foden was left needing crutches after sustaining his injury during training two days before England faced Italy at Wembley. The 21-year-old featured three times at the tournament, but only opened the first two group stage fixtures.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate initially described the injury as a ‘minor’ problem. But Foden has required a protective boot since the Manchester City talent underwent scans.

Manchester City are now waiting for Foden to return to training after giving the midfielder additional time off. He will arrive at the club’s facilities in early August, ahead of the curtain-raiser Community Shield tie with Leicester on August 7.
The Citizens are hopeful the club product will have recovered from his injury in time to face Tottenham Hotspur. Pep Guardiola’s side travel to north London on the opening day of the new Premier League season on August 15.
Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Kyle Walker are also not due back in training until August. Like Foden, Manchester City gave their players additional time off after Euro 2020.
Guardiola will be buzzing to have Foden fit for Manchester City
Guardiola will be buzzing if Foden returns to Manchester City for training next month fully fit and ready to go. The Citizens product played a big role in their Premier League title success last term, as well as progressing to the Champions League final.
Manchester City were so impressed by Foden’s rise to prominence that the Mirror reported in April that he was in line for a substantial pay rise. He currently earns £30,000-per-week on a deal signed in December 2018, but was set to be offered a £100k-p/w contract.
The more-than-treble jump came about as a number of top European sides were on alert to his rise. Foden scored 16 times and offered 10 assists last season. The midfielder’s strikes included both Champions League quarter-final ties with Borussia Dortmund.
And speaking after the second-leg tie in April, Guardiola said via the club’s website: “You have the feeling he is a guy who never hides. He always creates something. He is dynamic offensively, defensively and in small spaces [and] he is learning to make decisions.”
