Ilkay Gundogan could stay at Manchester City with Pep Guardiola not expecting the Arsenal target to leave this summer.

Fernandinho is already leaving City this summer whether they win the Premier League title or not.

That’s a big enough blow for City but there have now been many rumours suggesting that Gundogan will be leaving too.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Gundogan will be allowed to leave City at the end of the season.

That report states that Gundogan has been told that he can leave given that his contract expires in the summer of 2023.

There are now conflicting noises emerging though as The Telegraph suggest that Gundogan may not be leaving after all.

They claim that Pep Guardiola is expecting Gundogan to stay and was ‘shocked’ at the rumours that he will be allowed to leave.

Gundogan is still thought of as an important player according to that report, with City not anticipating any movement.

Gundogan was Guardiola’s first signing as City boss back in 2016 and has now played 252 times for the club. Gundogan has hit 47 goals and 33 assists in that time.

The German ace’s future now appears to be up in the air and it leaves Arsenal in limbo.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Arsenal would like to sign the 31-year-old this summer.

Boss Mikel Arteta coached Gundogan during his time on Guardiola’s staff with City and may fancy a reunion.

Gundogan’s experience and quality on the ball would be welcomed in an Arsenal team that look set to miss out on the Champions League.

Arsenal are already chasing another City player in Gabriel Jesus and may end up hoping for a double deal.

Jesus seems more likely to leave than Gundogan right now though and City may simply let Gundogan see out the final year of his deal.
