The Mail claim Manchester City are ready to sell Ilkay Gundogan and have informed the midfielder he can leave this summer. The Germany maestro is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at The Etihad, from June.
Gundogan, 31, has still been a crucial part of City’s side this season – clocking up 42 appearances in all competitions and having a hand in 14 goals. But he has only started 20 of City’s 37 league games so far.
The likes of Rodri, Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva are preferred in midfield at times, leaving Gundogan on the bench more often than not. He was an unused sub against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
Bought for £21million (Mail) as Guardiola’s first signing, Gundogan actually lives next door to the City boss. But he has been told that he will not be given a new deal this summer, and City will actively look to cash in.
Gundogan told he can leave Manchester City, the right decision?
It is an interesting one. But perhaps it tells us that Manchester City are preparing a summer overhaul – allowing their elder players to go and bring in younger stars. Erling Haaland is an example of that, a deal agreed.
Fernandinho will also depart. So, a couple of midfield signings could come in. Perhaps, given he is now in his thirties, offering him a new deal would not make sense in business terms. Cashing in, gets some cash in.
