Thomas Frank has told his press conference – as per BBC Sport – that he is “convinced” Tottenham target Christian Eriksen could stay at Brentford in the summer. The playmaker is being linked with a Spurs return.
Eriksen, 30, has been brilliant for Brentford since joining the club as a free agent in January. It comes after he was released by Inter Milan, after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. But he has proven he can still do it at the top.
Clocking up 10 Premier League appearances for the Bees, Eriksen has had a hand in five goals – laying on four assists, and scoring against Chelsea. Little surprise, Tottenham are keen. Brendan Rodgers wants him at Leicester.
Asked about Eriksen’s future, with the 111-time Denmark international’s contract due to expire next month, Frank says he is confident he will stay. However, Frank says if he does go, that Brentford “will applaud him”.
“I am convinced there is a good chance [he will stay]. Win-win for us. He gave something to the team, the fans. If he stays, the fans will build a statue in three years. If he moves on, we will applaud him,” Frank said, as per BBC.
Frank ‘convinced’ Tottenham target Eriksen stays: Spurs will appeal
There are many reasons why Eriksen would surely love to return to Tottenham. Firstly, he played 305 times for the club and while it ended with a sour taste in the mouth, a return has a sense of romance about it.
Secondly, it would see him remain in London and form a reunion with Antonio Conte. The duo combined at Inter, Eriksen a crucial part in Inter winning the Serie A title. Spurs could also offer Champions League football.
While Frank might be confident of keeping Eriksen – the player is to wait until the season and talk to Brentford first out of loyalty – a move to Tottenham seems somewhat inevitable.
