Earlier this year, Newcastle made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to explore the possibility of signing Keylor Navas.
The Magpies sensed an opportunity after the Costa Rica international lost his place in the starting XI to Gianluigi Donnarumma, off the back of the Italian winning Player of the Tournament at EURO 2020.
Newcastle have since signed Nick Pope to keep the ball out of the net, but there has now been an interesting development involving Navas in Paris.
What’s the story?
Well, the 35-year-old does not want to play second fiddle to Donnarumma anymore.
Christophe Galtier – who recently replaced Mauricio Pochettino – told the media that he respects the three-time Champions League winner’s desires, and revealed that some clubs are keen to take him away from PSG.
The Frenchman did not name any sides in particular, although it isn’t out of the equation that Newcastle are one of them after their enquiry earlier in 2022.
Navas made 26 appearances in all competitions last season, although he was left on the sidelines for the crucial Champions League knockout ties against Real Madrid, as well as a string of other important matches.
Nevertheless, the Costa Rican remains a superb goalkeeper, who was unlucky to be replaced by Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid, and now by Donnarumma at the Parc des Princes.
Newcastle should sign Keylor Navas

If the opportunity presents itself, Newcastle should bring Navas to Tyneside.
Of course, Martin Dubravka is a fine deputy for Pope, although Eddie Howe has supposedly told the Slovakia international that he can leave St James’ Park – Manchester United were allegedly interested.
Leicester have also been credited with an interest, after losing Kasper Schmeichel to OGC Nice.
A goalkeeper like Navas doesn’t become available often, so Newcastle would be fools to ignore him – keep an eye on this situation, as the veteran glovesman looks set to move shortly.
