Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Newcastle United goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, is a target of Leicester City if Kasper Schmeichel leaves the club, as he told Sky Sports News.

The Sky reporter added that veteran shot-stopper Schmeichel is headed to Ligue 1 side Nice and the Foxes have listed Dubravka as a replacement.

This possible deal becomes more realistic when you throw into the equation that Nick Pope signed for Newcastle this summer from Burnley.

The England international hasn’t come to sit on the bench, but to take Dubravka’s place, and regardless of if he moves to the King Power or not, he will need to leave this summer if he wants regular minutes.

Either way, Sheth shared his thoughts on Leicester wanting Dubravka and how the Rafa Benitez signing has become a number two at St James’ Park.

“This is an interesting one,” said Sheth. “We mentioned in the Premier League wrap about Brendan Rodgers not ruling out a departure for Kasper Schmeichel.

“This has just come from one source, but Martin Dubravka of Newcastle United, he’s one of a number of keepers Leicester City are looking at if Kasper Schmeichel was to leave in this transfer window.

“Now, Dubravka’s situation at Newcastle has complicated somewhat because he was the number one at St James’ Park, but they have signed Nick Pope.

“And he doesn’t want to stay at St James’ Park really as a number two, he wants to continue having regular first-team football, so if Schmeichel were to leave, a lot of things have to fall into place here, then Leicester are looking at Dubravka because Nick Pope is likely to start the new season as Newcastle’s number one.”

NEWCASTLE AND LEICESTER TRANSFERS

The two clubs might just have each other on speed dial because they might just conclude a few deals between one another this summer.

The Dubravka one, if the Foxes push for him, would be a lot easier to conclude given that the 33-year-old is a fringe player and not much transfer fee would be attached to his possible move.

But it’s a different story altogether for a certain Leicester City attacking midfielder because Newcastle are pushing hard for James Maddison.

A second bid of £50 million has been submitted by the Saudi-owned club for the 12-goal English star, as reported by Sky Sports.

Newcastle have the money to spend and it seems as though they are willing to push the boat out for one of Leicester’s key players.
