Angelo Stiller, who has been linked with Manchester United, was in action during Stuttgart’s 4-1 victory over Celtic in the Europa League.

While Manchester United are not involved in European competition this season, the club still has scouts monitoring both the Champions League and Europa League for potential transfer targets.

The play-offs are currently underway, but United’s primary focus remains on the Premier League and securing a return to the Champions League next season.

That goal seems achievable under Michael Carrick, as the Red Devils are currently fourth in the table.

Still, this week’s Europa League matches gave them plenty of reasons to tune in.

Two midfielders on their radar were involved. Elliot Anderson picked up an assist as Nottingham Forest cruised past Fenerbahce 3-0, while Stiller featured for Stuttgart against Celtic.

Stuttgart took control of their Europa League tie against Celtic, cruising to a 4-1 win in the first leg of their play-off.

The Bundesliga side made a strong start, with Bilal El Khannouss finding the net inside 15 minutes. But Celtic did not take long to respond, levelling the score just six minutes later.

Stiller, who has been linked with Manchester United, was at fault for the equaliser. He misjudged a pass near his own area while trying to play out from the back, which allowed Benjamin Nygren to pounce and score for Celtic.

But El Khannouss restored Stuttgart’s lead before half-time, this time benefiting from Stiller’s deflected cross. It was not an intentional assist, but it played a part in putting them back in front.

Stuttgart pulled away after the break. Jamie Leweling added a third with a strike from distance, and substitute Tiago Tomas wrapped up the win late on.

Despite his earlier mistake, Stiller settled into the game well and kept things tidy in possession. He finished with an 89% pass completion rate over 89 minutes and made five defensive actions.

The midfielder also touched the ball 83 times and completed 10 passes into the final third during what turned out to be a comfortable night for his side overall.

Man Utd midfield target list narrows to include Angelo Stiller

There has been talk for some time now that United will look to reshape their midfield in the upcoming summer window.

Certainly, with Casemiro confirming his departure, that overhaul feels more like a necessity than an option. But there are plenty of names out there who could fill the gap.

Speaking to The United Stand, Ben Jacobs pointed out that the Red Devils have really trimmed down their list of potential signings.

While there were as many as 12 names on the table just a couple of months ago, focus has now shifted to just five: Anderson, Stiller, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Sandro Tonali.
