Manchester United have brought in Bryan Mbeumo and are now competing with Brentford for the signature of a promising young player.
United came from behind to beat West Ham 2-1 in the Premier League Summer Series, with Bruno Fernandes scoring both goals at the MetLife Stadium.
Fans will have been encouraged by some of the play under Ruben Amorim, even though there’s still plenty of work to be done before the season gets underway.
Mbeumo wasn’t involved against West Ham and might not feature against Bournemouth later this week either. United will want to get him up to speed quickly, but they may also be ready to deal Brentford another blow.

Manchester United target Metz’s Idrissa Gueye
Reports out of France recently have put United in the mix for Metz forward Idrissa Gueye.
The 18-year-old found the net five times in 20 Ligue 2 appearances last season, playing a key role in Metz’s promotion push back to Ligue 1.
Gueye only made the move from Generation Foot in Senegal to Metz back in January, but has already made his mark at the club.
Metz have a solid track record of bringing through talent from Generation Foot, having previously helped players like Sadio Mane and Ismaila Sarr make their way into European football.
The Sun reports that Metz are valuing him around £15million. It’s not just United who are interested though – Brentford are also looking at him as they plan for life after Mbeumo.
The Bees had thought Southampton were their main rivals for Gueye, but now face fresh competition from Old Trafford.
One important detail is how each club sees his immediate role. Brentford want to bring him straight into their first team, while United view him more as one for the future.
Ineos sustain their long-term market strategy
Ineos continue to target emerging forwards. Chido Obi joined last year and has already shown glimpses of his quality around the first-team squad. Enzo Kana-Biyik was signed this summer and immediately loaned out to Lausanne-Sport, another club under Ineos ownership.
Kana-Biyik has picked up an early injury setback but remains highly regarded within the club’s long-term plans. Adding Gueye would fit that approach too, though Ineos will need a clear plan if they want to convince him over Brentford’s offer of immediate game time.
