Manchester City will reportedly listen to offers of £80m for Raheem Sterling this summer, with Arsenal said to be interested in the England superstar.

According to the Daily Star, the reigning Premier League champions are open to offloading an attacker in the transfer window with Pep Guardiola set to bring in a natural centre-forward, with one of Sterling or Gabriel Jesus likely to depart Manchester.

The two players are yet to agree new contracts at City, and as per the report, Sterling could depart the Premier League giants if a club meets the £80m valuation for the 26-year-old attacker, with Arsenal reportedly interested in the former Liverpool winger.

The Daily Star have previously reported that Arsenal are one of the clubs chasing Sterling, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal with City, a position which could allow the Gunners to negotiate a lower fee for the forward.

A player who Thierry Henry is a huge fan of, Sterling could be an interesting attacking signing for Arsenal this summer, with Mikel Arteta previously working with the forward during their time together at City.

However, despite the pair’s previous accomplishments in Manchester, Sterling is a player who doesn’t suit the profile of what Arsenal are looking for this summer, with the Gunners well-stocked in the wing positions.

Arsenal’s need for a natural no. 9 is greater than signing Sterling

There’s no denying that Sterling is a world-class attacker who would be perfect for Arsenal if they did not have two gems on their hand in Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, and with a centre-forward the key signing for the Gunners this summer, the City winger makes even less sense as a transfer window addition.

Indeed, whilst Sterling has again been impressive this season and is rightly rated by the likes of Henry, there’s no denying that the potential of both Saka and Martinelli and Arsenal’s need for a natural no. 9 are much more important than signing the City star.
