HITC understands that City’s hierarchy has discussed the possibility of bringing in £12.5 million Argentine starlet Claudio Echeverri this summer – bringing forward his move.
18-year-old Echeverri is currently with River Plate, despite signing for City in January. The initial agreement was that he would remain in Argentina until January of 2025. However, with City being linked with bringing in a new forward – HITC can confirm that Echeverri name has has been spoken about.
HITC understands that Echeverri would prefer to remain in Argentina until January and a huge reason for that is that River Plate are number one seed in the Copa Libertadores.
River Plate are also favourites to win the competition, but a huge factor behind Echeverri wanting to remain in Argentina is that the final will be played in Buenos Aries and River Plate’s stadium is the likely venue.
How City are feeling about forward reinforcements following Oscar Bobb injury
Despite Manchester City’s willingness to bring the deal forward, the chance for Echeverri to play in his home stadium in the biggest club match in South America is a huge thing and the Premier League champions are aware of this – which makes it highly unlikely they would bring him to England just a few months early.
The fact Echeverri will be with them in January means City do think they might cope – despite the most recent injury to Oscar Bobb.
Bobb’s injury looks set to keep him out of action for around three months which will come as a big blow as it appeared the Norwegian was set for a breakthrough campaign.
