Despite a deal being agreed with Atletico Madrid and personal terms being in place, Chelsea’s move for Samu Omorodion has collapsed sources have confirmed to HITC.
20-year-old Samu has now been forced to travel back to Spain despite undergoing his medical at Chelsea’s Cobham training HQ.
A seven-year deal with an option for another year was in place, but it has gone unsigned with club officials stating that a ‘major contract issue’ arose that was insurmountable.
Atletico have tried to engage in talks to see if the deal can still be conlcuded, but they insist it is an issue between Chelsea and the player, and as it stands the deal is off.

Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez wait to seal moves to Atletico
With the deal for Samu collapsing, that has now cast some doubt over Atletico’s deals for Julian Alvarez and Conor Gallagher but sources close to the Spanish club have told HITC that they ‘fully confident’ that both of those deals will go through, independent of anything else.
Atletico have agreed personal terms with both Gallagher and Alvarez, and the pair are both currently in Madrid ready to finalise their moves which will cost the Spanish in excess of £100million.
Gallagher has been pictured at Ateltico’s Civitas Metropolitano Stadium with his family, whilst Alvarez is understood to have touched down in Spain on Sunday ahead of his medical on Monday.
Chelsea in talks over Joao Felix return
With the Samu deal seemingly off, Atletico and Chelsea have been talking about what happens next and HITC can confirm that Joao Felix’s name has emerged in conversations.
Having already negotiated a huge deal with Jorge Mendes for Pedro Neto over the weekend, Chelsea are now talking to him again as they are considering bringing in Felix instead of Samu.
Felix’s has little future at Atletico having returned from a season-long loan at Barcelona. Barca retain an interest, whilst former club Benfica also looked into a deal but the favourites to land him have been Aston Villa.
Villa boss Unai Emery would love to work with Felix and their footballing chief Monchi has been in talks over a possible deal, but now their hopes of a deal for 24-year-old are in doubt.
The move by Chelsea could see Felix return to Stamford Bridge having spent the first six-months of 2023 on-loan in West London.
