Nedum Onuoha has claimed that Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season and added that ‘Manchester City fans won’t be happy’ with his prediction, as he told ESPN.

The former Manchester City defender highlighted the faces that have left the Etihad this summer as a reason behind his prediction, added with how Liverpool feel like ‘the same old’ side.

On Saturday, the Reds set an early marker in the Premier League title race when they beat their rivals 3-1 in the Community Shield, with summer signing, Darwin Nunez, coming off the bench and scoring.

Last season, the title race went right down to the wire, with both Manchester City and Liverpool able to churn out 90+ points in their sleep.

Well, whilst Onuoha would like to see his former side dominate even further ahead of the new season, he was asked why he has pushed for Liverpool to win their second crown under Jurgen Klopp.

“With the Liverpool and Manchester City thing for the Premier League title, it does feel like they are far and away the two closest sides to winning it,” said Onuoha.

“But it’s by a point. Or just maybe a bit more than that. I think, at this moment time, the players that have come in at Man City and the ones that have left. I think for Liverpool, as I saw on Saturday, it almost feels like it’s the same old Liverpool. It felt exactly the same.

“For Man City, searching for that maybe something different, perhaps it means they won’t hit the ground running in the way they need to be really competitive all the way throughout.

“Again, it’s a toss-up. I could have said Man City or Liverpool, neither will be a surprise – Some Man City fans are going to be unhappy with me.”

MAN CITY AND LIVERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE RACE

For most parts, it has been the duo locking horns and taking each other to the wire when fighting for the Premier League title in recent years.

The same two will be involved again and they will push one another to the limit, but can anyone else join their dominant party?

Tottenham Hotspur are being talked about as possible contenders, with Gary Neville backing Antonio Conte’s side to finish third ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Chelsea finish third last time out, but their summer isn’t going as planned and there does seem to be some uncertainty around Thomas Tuchel’s side, including a lack of goalscorer.

That could all be wiped out with a strong start to the season, but if Tuchel can add more firepower to his forward line, then they might also fancy their chances to challenge.
