Gary Neville has backed Tottenham Hotspur to finish ‘third’ ahead of the new Premier League season and added that they could secure second ‘if Liverpool wobble’, as he told the Overlap.

The former Manchester United defender added that Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings have added to their backbone and he has them securing third, as he praised the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison.

With Antonio Conte in the dugout, there are a lot of expectations on Tottenham’s shoulders because of the man in their dugout.

In the summer, the likes of Bissouma, Richarlison and Perisic have been added to Tottenham’s books, which seriously bulks up their squad.

And with the 2022/23 Premier League season around the corner, and Tottenham beginning life against Southampton, Neville has had big things to say about the club.

“I have got Spurs finishing third in my head because of Perisic, Bissouma and Richarlison,” said Neville. “And they have added to what they have already got.

“They won’t finish above Liverpool, but they could. If Liverpool just somehow wobble, and get an injury to a Van Dijk, then Tottenham could (finish second).

“They are the only club, I think, that potentially, and it’s a high risk with Liverpool, could get there.”

HERE AND NOW FOR TOTTENHAM

This is it for Tottenham, it’s not about what happens in a few years time like Arsenal have built under Mikel Arteta, but what happens now.

The facts are pretty clear, Conte doesn’t sit in the seat for long enough, but when he does, then the results are there for all to see.

Can he do the unthinkable ahead of the new Premier League season? Well, the Spurs fans would more than accept a few trophies in the cabinet and then Conte heading for the exit door not long after because it means success.

But the club’s problem has always been trying to get over that line, well they have a coach who is built for these moments, it’s just a case of transcending out onto the pitch.
