Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Malang Sarr from Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to The Express.
What’s the story?
The Express are reporting today (9am) that Newcastle are considering making a loan move for Chelsea central defender Sarr.
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce wants to sign another defender, and the 22-year-old Frenchman is on his radar.
Bruce is also looking at Ethan Ampadu of Chelsea.
The 20-year-old Wales international can play as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.
Newcastle will not be able to sign both players on loan from Chelsea, and manager Bruce will have to choose between Sarr and Ampadu.

Highly rated
Sarr is a very talented and promising young central defender who played over 100 times during his time at Nice.
Chelsea actually signed the Frenchman on a free transfer last summer before sending him out on loan to FC Porto for last season.

Spanish and European giants Barcelona were also interested in Sarr, according to France Football in August 2020.
The report in the French publication claimed that Barcelona had actually been in touch with the youngster and his representatives.
We covered the report here on HITC Sport.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia described Sarr as “a tremendous prospect” on the club’s official website in August 2020.
With Barcelona reporting chasing him last summer and Chelsea signing him, it is clear that Sarr is rated very highly.
