Barcelona are interested in Arsenal target Malang Sarr, according to France Football.

It has been reported by the French publication that Barcelona Director of Football Eric Abidal has been in touch with Sarr and his representatives over a transfer this summer.

The 21-year-old left-footed central defender is a free agent at the moment, having left French club Nice earlier this summer.

The report in France Football has claimed that Abidal has spoken to Sarr about playing regularly for the Barcelona first team next season.

This latest reported development will come as a blow for Arsenal, who are also claimed to want the 21-year-old.

The Sun reported last month that the Gunners have held talks with representatives of the France Under-21 international over a move to the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer this summer.

Too many centre-backs at Arsenal

While Arsenal could do with a very good and capable left-footed centre-back such as Sarr in their team, it is hard to see the Gunners bring in another player for central defence without selling some they already have.

The Gunners have as many as seven centre-backs – Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Sokratis, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and William Saliba – in their squad, and head coach Mikel Arteta will have to offload a few to make space for another one.
