Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho has spilled the beans on his failed move to West Bromwich Albion in an interview with AS.
Camacho was a well-known Baggies target towards the end of the summer window, but remained with the Andalusian side, who have since offered him a new contract.

Later, West Brom chairman John Williams claimed his side pulled out of the move for “footballing reasons”, but according to the player, the collapse occurred when the Baggies failed to meet his £15 million buy-out clause.
“It happened suddenly,” Camacho told AS. “It was before the match against Espanyol. It was almost finished. But this is football and operations can be broken at any time.

“He (Malaga’s president) was clear that he didn’t want me to leave. Either they paid the clause, or I did not leave Malaga.
“It is true that there were calls (from other clubs), but the clearest route was West Brom.”
Camacho, who admitted to having “escaped a good contract” by staying in Malaga, was widely expected to sign the deal offered to him by his current employers last December.

However, the once-capped Spain international is still to put pen to paper and claimed an approach was made by an undisclosed club in January, with Valencia also keen.

West Brom, meanwhile, failed to lure another midfield target, Morgan Schneiderlin, last month, with the Frenchaman moving to Everton instead.
