Steve Nicol has claimed that Tottenham are ‘making transfer moves’ and are the ones that are showing the most promise in ‘getting close’ to the Premier League’s top two – Manchester City and Liverpool.
Spurs have already signed three players this summer – Fraster Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma – whilst Nicol dropped the possibility of Djed Spence also joining them, as he told ESPN.
It has been previously reported that Antonio Conte’s side are keen on bringing the £20 million-rated wing-back to north London from Middlesbrough – he won promotion to the Premier League whilst on-loan with Nottingham Forest.

But could the 21-year-old now find himself going from being on loan at a Championship club to playing Champions League football? Well, only time will tell.
In the meantime, Liverpool legend Nicol is loving what Spurs are doing in the transfer market and he thinks Conte has got a grip of Daniel Levy to get the job done.
“Spurs, the way they finished the season,” said Nicol. “The moves they are making in the transfer market. You are talking about a guy like Djed Spence.
“They have targets and they have made it clear that they want to take a step up. Of all the sides outside of the top two, they are the one side that have sort of said to everybody around them ‘right, we want to compete’.
“And to do that they need better players, so they have gone out and they have signed players. They are still trying to sign players.
“It’s very un-Spurs like. Daniel Levy is one of those guys who has a reputation of waiting until the last second to try and be cute and clever to get a deal. It seems as though Conte has sort of got him in order and said ‘let’s not try to be clever here and do what we need to do in order to take that step up’.
“For me it’s easy, Spurs are the ones trying to get close to Manchester City and Liverpool.”

BISSOUMA BEST BUY SO FAR
Tottenham’s best piece of business so far is bringing Yves Bissouma to the club from Brighton, and that for £25 million – something which left Chris Sutton ‘surprised’.
Ivan Perisic is another clever signing and a player that will not only have an impact on the field of play, but also what he does off the pitch with the younger players.
Either way, as things stand, this has been some start to the 2022 summer transfer window for Spurs and it seems as though more is to come.
Will that creative player arrive? Christian Eriksen’s name has been thrown about, he spent the last six months at Brentford.
