Christian Eriksen signing for Tottenham Hotspur has been widely touted but the threat of Manchester United remains ever present.
According to The Times, Tottenham are ‘quietly confident’ of re-signing their former playmaker, who left to join Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan in 2020.
But with Conte now at Spurs, that’s an additional factor which could swing this in the Lilywhites’ favour – not to mention the widespread reports that the Denmark international, who spent the second half of last season with Brentford, wants to stay in London.
However, Manchester United represent a genuine threat to the North Londoners.
And speaking on Sky Sports this morning, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan has highlighted that Erik ten Hag – who watched him train with Ajax following his cardiac arrest last year – is absolutely desperate to sign Eriksen, claiming he has told the Red Devils’ board that he only wants him and Frenkie de Jong signed this summer.
Van der Kraan told Sky Sports: “Erik Ten Hag has made it so clear to the Man United board that he wants both Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen. It’s all hinging on those two players. He doesn’t want any other players apart from those two first.”
Christian Eriksen signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
Well this would be the stuff of fairytales.
Supporters of the Lilywhites would love him back and being honest, they need him.
Since leaving in January of 2020 under Jose Mourinho, Tottenham haven’t really replaced Eriksen’s creativity.
These days, Harry Kane is both Spurs’ best playmaker and goalscoring all rolled into one, which is great for the player because it highlights how complete he is, but it isn’t positive for the Lilywhites because they suffer from August to May if he’s fulfilling both roles.
Conte needs a magician back in North London and although Eriksen makes sense, the Dane could well be impressed by how much Ten Hag wants him at Manchester United, in our view.
