‘No sense’: Some Aston Villa fans fear for 25-year-old’s future after Smith decision

Aston Villa fans on Twitter fear for Frederic Guilbert’s future after Dean Smith left him out of Monday’s Premier League win against Sheffield United.

New summer signing, Matty Cash played at right-back, with the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady on the bench.

Leaving Guilbert out of Villa’s starting XI is one thing, but not selecting him in the matchday squad is an entirely different matter.

It needs to be remembered that the Frenchman was also an unused substitute during Villa’s League Cup win at Burton last week.

What’s also concerning that the rumours around Guilbert’s future this summer have suggested that he could be heading for the exit door.

French outlet L’Equipe claimed that Villa are demanding £5 million for the 25-year-old’s services, as a return to Nantes is on the cards, but the player himself then made it clear on social media that he’s happy at the club [Read Here].

But given the signals Smith is giving, and the decisions he is making, it is puts doubts into the minds of the Villa fans who feel he could be off.

Added with that, given that Villa now have three right-back’s on their books, it does suggest that at least one will leave between Elmohamady and Guilbert.
