‘Makes a lot of goals’: Joe Cole raves about CL winner Newcastle want to sign

Joe Cole has stated that Newcastle United transfer target, Timo Werner, ‘makes a lot of goals’ for Chelsea, as he told ITV Sport.

The former England midfielder added that he would have loved to have played alongside the Chelsea 26-year-old on Newcastle’s radar.

Whilst Werner has struggled for goals at Chelsea, his performances outside of the six-yard box have been encouraging.

In recent weeks, he has been one of Chelsea’s top performers, but it hasn’t stopped rumours circulating about his future.

There are suggestions that Chelsea would be willing to sell the German international, with the big pockets of Newcastle keen to take him on board.

The views on Werner from his fans, regarding his performances, will be mixed, but Cole made it clear the effort he puts in can’t be questioned. 

“I like him as a player,” said Cole. “I would love him as a teammate. You talk to the fans, they appreciate him because of the work he puts in.

“I think he makes a lot of goals, with his runs and he stretches teams. One thing you can’t discount with this kid is that he doesn’t give up.

“He doesn’t shy away from any challenge. If he misses a chance, then he will go again.

“I love the fact that he has come back into this crucial stage of the season and becoming an important part for Chelsea. I still think there is a story for him at Chelsea. Three months ago I would have said it’s time for him to move on.”

Newcastle signed Bruno Guimarães and Kieran Trippier during the January transfer window, which was a statement of intent from the club.

At the time, they were deep in the relegation mire, yet they were still able to attract players of that calibre to St James’ Park. 

Whilst Werner is a big name, the 2021 Champions League winner isn’t exactly pulling up trees in the Premier League’s goalscoring charts.

Newcastle already have Miguel Almiron who needs 10 shots just to hit the target and Allan Saint-Maximin who seemingly fails to see a pass, so perhaps this possible signing might not happen.
