Darren Anderton has called on Tottenham Hotspur to hire Jurgen Klinsmann as Jose Mourinho’s long-term successor.

Tottenham are still in the hunt to hire a replacement for the axed Portuguese manager.

A number of big names like Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers have already turned down Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

But some interesting candidates – like Antonio Conte – remain on the Lilywhites’ wishlist.

Klinsmann threw his hat into the ring during an interview with Sky Sports News on Wednesday afternoon.

And Anderton has admitted on Twitter that he’d love to see the former Tottenham hitman return to the dugout.

Is this likely?

Well, no.

The 56-year-old is a Tottenham legend for sure, but that’s as a player. As a manager, he has only had one stint in club management over the past 10 years and that was a very short-lived spell as Hertha Berlin coach.

And with respect, Levy needs to be absolutely certain – well, as certain as he can be – that the next managerial appointment he makes is spot-on.

That’s because there’s a lot of pressure on the North Londoners’ chief in recent months following the botched European Super League fiasco, which resulted in thousands of fans calling for his resignation.

Levy needs to make an appointment that he can defend to his employers and quite honestly, there’s no defence if he goes and hires Klinsmann.
