Magic Johnson does not want to hear Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name connected with the New York Knicks, even if their dream NBA Finals run somehow falls apart.

The Knicks lead the San Antonio Spurs 3-1 and are one win from their first championship since 1973. But Giannis speculation has still followed them, with Milwaukee expected to reassess his future once the Finals end.

Johnson’s message was clear: do not break up what already works.

Magic Johnson shuts down Giannis to Knicks talk

“I don’t wanna hear no talk about Giannis, or no other player coming to this team. This is a great team. I’ve watched a lot of basketball. The way these guys love each other. Play for each other. Pull for one another. You’re not gonna see this anywhere else. The, grit, the toughness that’s how they beat you. Together.”

That is not a small endorsement. Johnson has seen enough championship basketball to know when chemistry is more than a storyline.

Asked if he would change his mind if the Knicks blew a 3-1 Finals lead, Johnson still held firm.

“You keep ’em together and make small changes. This team knows how to play so well with each other. And off of Brunson. Everybody is comfortable in their role. KAT could start for another team tomorrow. OG can go to another team and be a star. But he’s good at playing his role. Bridges too. And Hart, no 2 guard rebounds like Josh Hart. So you’ve got the pieces, and they’re all happy.”

Knicks’ pursuit of Giannis has already caused noise

The Knicks have been linked to Giannis for months, and reports have suggested that these talks created hard feelings with Karl-Anthony Towns after his name surfaced as a potential outgoing piece.

That matters because Towns has helped New York get here. Moving him after a Finals run would send a brutal message to a locker room built on trust.

The Bucks are expected to wait until after the Finals before making any major decision regarding Giannis, partly because the Knicks or Spurs could still reshape the market depending on how the series ends.

A realistic Knicks offer would likely start with Towns to match salary, then add Miles McBride, Pacôme Dadiet, Tyler Kolek, plus whatever picks and swaps New York can legally move.

On paper, Jalen Brunson and Giannis would become one of the league’s most dangerous duos overnight.

But the cost would be massive. The Knicks would lose shooting, spacing and the role comfort Johnson praised. Giannis would change everything, from pace to late-game spacing to OG Anunoby’s and Mikal Bridges’ responsibilities.

Johnson’s point is simple. New York may not need the biggest name. It may already have the right team.
