FC Barcelona are one of the biggest sports clubs in the world as well as one of the most supported, yet things as of late have not been rosy, to say the least.
With a financial debt of over €1bn, being dumped out of the UEFA Europa League and fighting the likes of Sevilla and Real Betis for a top-four spot, Barcelona have fallen massively from their status as one of the best in world football.

Whilst Xavi Hernandez and the club as a whole are taking steps in the right direction to get back on track, Barcelona have been nothing short of a mess in recent months, and their La Liga loss to relegation candidates Cadiz highlighted just that.
A 1-0 defeat at home was one of the worst Barca have suffered in recent memory, and with that in mind, here are the Blaugrana’s most embarrassing losses in the 21st Century.
7th May 2008 – Real Madrid give Barcelona the ultimate embarrassment

Giving your most hated rivals a guard of honour is already bad enough in football, yet for Barcelona, Real Madrid took it one step further in 2008 by comfortably smashing Frank Rijkaard’s side 4-1 at the Bernabeu.
The result, and the season as a whole, pushed Barca to appoint an unproven Pep Guardiola as manager of the club, and as we know, that sole decision arguably changed modern-day football given the revelation the Catalan boss became for the La Liga side.
10th April 2018 – Roma rises from their ashes

Whilst there were some shocking results here and there for Barcelona between 2008 and 2018, the 3-0 loss to AS Roma in the Champions League could be pointed as the beginning of the downfall for the European giants.
You know the game and you will no doubt remember Peter Drury’s incredible commentary on the night as Kostas Manolas’ late goal secured a 4-4 aggregate result for Roma, sending the Italians through on away goals and crashing Barcelona out in embarrassing fashion.
7th May 2019 – Divock Origi becomes Barcelona’s nightmare

Roma’s comeback against Barcelona should be regarded as one of the best in modern Champions League history, yet a year later, Liverpool one-upped the Serie A side and then some at Anfield.
On one of the most bombastic evenings in European football history, Liverpool overturned a 3-0 loss at the Camp Nou to win 4-0 at Anfield, with Divock Origi immortalising himself in Merseyside folklore and remaining a nightmare for Barcelona fans to this very day.
14th August 2020 – Bayern Munich embarrass Barcelona 8-2

Okay so losing 3-0 and 4-0 in the Champions League is bad, but it can’t get any worse, right? Enter Bayern Munich in 2020, and for Barcelona, they were on the receiving end of one f the biggest defeats in European history.
Considering that Bayern have also beaten Barcelona 7-0 in the Champions League, there was just something about this 8-2 loss that felt that more embarrassing, namely on-loan player Phillipe Coutinho scoring a brace against his own side to knock them out from Europe.
18th April 2022 – Minnows Cadiz shock Barca at the Camp Nou

As mentioned at the start, Cadiz’s win against Barcelona was a shock to many on multiple levels, yet the full weight of the defeat really doesn’t begin to describe how embarrassing this result was for the La Liga giants.
With former Arsenal flop Lucas Perez scoring his first goal of the season and the win ending Barcelona’s incredible unbeaten run in the league, losing to Cadiz has been one of the club’s worst defeats in recent months and arguably this season, as a whole.
