Liverpool fans think that Philippe Coutinho must seriously be regretting leaving them now.
A bad decision?
Coutinho was Liverpool’s star man at the point of his departure in 2018, when he decided that a move to Barcelona was the best option for him.
At the time Barca were a European powerhouse, while Liverpool had not really established themselves as the force they are today.
The decision appeared to be understandable – but Barcelona and Coutinho’s demises have been rapid.
Barca crashed out of the Champions League yesterday after a 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have gone from strength to strength after Coutinho’s departure.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won the Champions League and the Premier League, with the money they raised from Coutinho’s sale funding the singings of both Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
Liverpool, of course, have progressed through their group in Europe’s top competition with no trouble at all – after winning all six of their games.
And Barca’s early exit last night had many Liverpool fans thinking that Coutinho may be wishing he never left Anfield.
A Coutinho return?
There have actually been some suggestions that Coutinho could return to Liverpool.
Reports in Spain have claimed that he is on Klopp’s radar.
This does seem unlikely, given his poor form in recent years, but if Liverpool could restore him to his very best then he unquestionably could be a strong addition.
Coutinho was one of the stars of the Premier League during his last spell in England and would inject a huge amount of creativity into their midfield options.
But it seems more likely that Coutinho may have to look elsewhere rather than a return to Merseyside if he does move on from Barcelona.
